UK Government Partners with Google Cloud to Eliminate Legacy Tech
The UK government teams up with Google Cloud to retire outdated legacy systems by 2030, boosting efficiency and accelerating public sector digital transformation.

The UK government has announced a major partnership with Google Cloud aimed at phasing out legacy technologies across the public sector by 2030. As part of the initiative, the government will migrate critical services to cloud infrastructure, modernize digital operations, and establish a National Digital Exchange (NDX) to streamline procurement and reduce costs.
The transformation plan also includes training for more than 100,000 civil servants to build cloud and AI skills, ensuring that public sector workers are prepared for the technological shift. By retiring outdated legacy systems, officials aim to improve service delivery, enhance cybersecurity, and accelerate innovation across departments.
This collaboration underscores the UK’s ambition to lead in digital governance while reducing inefficiencies caused by outdated IT. Experts suggest that the move could serve as a model for other nations seeking to modernize their public sector through cloud-driven transformation.
